SmartMoney proudly employs, trains and mobilizes hundreds of rural African team members to promote to their community the benefits of savings and to train them how to use SmartMoney to increase savings and realize other benefits.
SmartMoney provides formal financial services to customers in remote rural communities, most of which have never walked into a bank branch, let alone used a bank account. Many people own mobile phones but have never sent an SMS or even placed a phone call, instead waiting for someone to call them. In addition, there is often only a very limited savings culture, as well as widespread skepticism towards financial service providers as many rural people have been victims of fraud. To overcome these obstacles and encourage greater savings SmartMoney conducts extensive training throughout the rural community. Training must be continuous and repetitive and must be delivered by trusted members of the community.
In Q4, we launched “SmartAcademy,” a comprehensive training programme that formalizes and scales tried and tested methodologies. “SmartAcademy” leverages rural trust networks by making members of the community ambassadors for SmartMoney.
